PUBLIC PARKS AND PUBLIC SPACES– Environmental Design and Wayfinding
:: Central Park Conservancy
Client: Central Park Conservancy
Role: Freelance Environmental Designer
Project Overview:
As a freelance Environmental Designer, I contributed to wayfinding initiatives designed to improve the visitor experience while respecting Central Park’s historic character and visual identity. My work included researching existing conditions, determining strategic sign placement across the park’s 350 acres, and considering how signage and its supporting structures would integrate with the surrounding landscape and historic context.
In the Below project I contributed to the development of a consolidated park welcome signage system comprising four distinct sign types for deployment across all 53 entry points to Central Park. Each type addressed specific visitor needs, communicating park rules, safety guidelines, accessibility information, wildlife protection, and emergency procedures. The system established a consistent visual and informational framework throughout the park while accommodating the unique requirements of individual locations.
I contributed to planning sign placement throughout Central Park for pedestrian and cyclist dismount signage, identifying locations where signs could clearly communicate park rules. and support safe movement through shared spaces.
